A-Z

It’s important to identify a private equity investment firm whose interests match your transaction. Some firms only work on very large deals, and many venture capital firms only invest in technology companies and do not back management buyouts. Fortunately, the Internet has made searching for firms much easier, and with this list I’ve tried to provide you with the Web addresses of the various firms. Review those Web sites carefully before you send out any material. For each firm listed, I have included the amount of capital and made some annotations about its focus, which can help you initially identify a firm that may best match your needs.

This list of firms is not by any means a complete list. There are hundreds of firms, and if I tried to list them all, the list would comprise the whole book. While a majority of the firms listed have multiple office locations, for the most part, I have included only their primary office location, so check their Web site to see if they have an office close to you. You’ll be able to get detailed personal contact information from most sites as well.

Please note that there are also a very large group of firms backed by the Small Business Administration called SBICs (“Small Business Investment Companies”). You can find that list of firms at www.sba.gov. These farms target investments in smaller companies.

If you are an investor and I left your firm off this list, or an investor who would have preferred to have been left off the list, I apologize. This list, and additional updates and links, can also be found online at the website for the book.
